The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has secured the All Progressives Congress ticket to contest for another term as the member representing Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State in the 2027 general elections.

Kalu emerged unopposed during the APC primary held across the 13 electoral wards of the constituency on Saturday.

The wards involved in the exercise include Alayi, Bende, Ezeukwu, Igbere, Item, Itumbuzo, Nkpa, Ntalakwu, Ozuitem, Ugwueke, Umu-Imenyi, Umuhu-Ezechi and Uzuakoli.
The exercise witnessed a large turnout of party members and stakeholders across the constituency.
According to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, party leaders, ward executives and delegates unanimously endorsed Kalu for another term.
The stakeholders commended his legislative performance and constituency projects since his election into the National Assembly.
They described his unopposed return as “a reflection of the confidence reposed in him by members of the APC and constituents alike.”
Kalu, who was first elected into the House in 2019 and became Deputy Speaker in 2023, has remained a prominent figure in the APC in the South-East.
He thanked party members, traditional rulers, youths and women groups for their support and pledged to continue delivering democratic dividends to the constituency.
“The Deputy Speaker reiterated his commitment to delivering more democratic dividends, promoting inclusive governance, and advancing policies that would improve the welfare and economic opportunities of the people of Bende,” the statement read.
