A man identified only as Pedro was shot dead on Tuesday by suspected cultists at Idumota in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Thursday from a police source privy to the investigation that the assailants, who arrived on a motorcycle, attacked the victim at close range before fleeing the scene.

According to the source, Pedro had just left his friends and was heading to his sister’s place when the incident occurred.
“We got a report that he had just left his friends and told them he was heading to his sister’s place in the evening. Two men on a motorcycle then emerged and shot him at close range. He died on the spot,” the source said.
The source added that officers who visited the scene evacuated the corpse to a morgue.
Another police source told PUNCH Metro that the killing might be linked to ongoing cult clashes in the area.
“Members of rival cult groups have been on the trail of one another, and that has resulted in recent clashes,” the source disclosed.
Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, were unsuccessful, as calls to her telephone line went unanswered.
A text message sent to her had not been replied to as of the time of filing this report.
The incident comes days after three unidentified male adults were hacked to death by suspected cultists while returning from a birthday party in the Epetedo area of the community.
PUNCH Metro had reported that the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 2.
The victims, along with another friend, had attended a party organised by an associate in Epetedo before they were ambushed on their way home and killed by suspected cultists.
