The collaboration introduces “Pay with MoMo,” a feature that allows MoMo PSB customers to make cardless payments directly from their wallets at UBA merchant locations using Redtech’s RedPay POS terminals.
Customers can also carry out deposits and withdrawals at UBA branches, while online merchants gain the ability to accept payments directly from MoMo wallets via Redtech’s gateway infrastructure.
The move brings together Redtech’s payment technology capabilities, UBA’s extensive merchant-acquiring network, and MoMo PSB’s growing mobile money ecosystem to tackle a critical structural gap in Nigeria’s payments landscape, one that has historically limited the usability of mobile wallets in everyday commerce.
Kayode Olubiyi, UBA’s head of digital banking, said the initiative directly responds to challenges around cash dependence and limited card access.
“What this partnership represents is an honest and effective answer to the gap we identified in cash transactions and card access. Our merchants are already serving millions of customers every day through the UBA network. By bringing Pay with MoMo into that network, we are giving those merchants a direct connection to MoMo PSB’s customer base and giving MoMo PSB customers more places to use their wallets when they shop. That is a clear win for both sides.”
For Redtech, the partnership is about building a unified payment infrastructure that works across platforms and customer preferences. Emmanuel Ojo, chief executive officer of the firm, linked the effort to broader economic inclusion goals inspired by Tony Elumelu’s Africapitalism philosophy.
“This partnership is about making payments work more seamlessly for everyday commerce. Our goal is to build the payment infrastructure that ensures a merchant never has to turn away any customer in Nigeria or across Africa because of their preferred payment method.”
On its part, MoMo PSB highlighted the scale and inclusion opportunity embedded in the collaboration. Omolara Michael-Nwadu. The mobile’s money acting CEO noted that integrating MoMo wallets into UBA’s merchant network through Redtech’s infrastructure will unlock access to more than 55,000 merchant locations nationwide.
“This partnership marks a significant step toward true interoperability in Nigeria’s payments ecosystem. By integrating MoMo wallets into UBA’s merchant network, we are removing barriers between bank-led and mobile money systems while unlocking access to over 55,000 merchant touchpoints.”
She added that the initiative is designed to drive transaction volumes, deepen engagement, and expand financial access by making payments simpler and more widely accepted.
Also, Alero Ladipo, UBA’s group head of marketing and corporate communications, underscored the importance of collaboration in achieving meaningful financial inclusion.
“Financial inclusion is not a slogan to us at UBA. It is a commitment that requires scale, technology, and the willingness to build ecosystems rather than silos. This partnership is that commitment made concrete.”
“Pay with MoMo” is already live across RedPay POS terminals within UBA’s merchant network, which has processed over N278.47 billion in transactions across more than 12.23 million payments to date.
