Similarly, in an exclusive chat with BusinessDay political correspondent, Osa Director, the National Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) also confirmed the party position.
The leadership of the NDC clarified that the core focus of the policy is to safe-keep the party structure rather than trap its top executive candidates.
The party stated that the anti-defection oath specifically targets candidates contesting for the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly. These lawmakers frequently switch parties immediately after winning elections.
While the party’s general framework calls for widespread commitment, the leadership used an administrative waiver to exclude the presidential and vice-presidential slots.
The overarching goal of the affidavit and indemnity pact remains to prevent lower-tier elected politicians from abandoning the platform and weakening the opposition’s institutional power before upcoming election cycles.
