The Federal Government has announced that work on the Kaduna-Kano-Jigawa-Katsina-Maradi railway project is progressing steadily, with the development currently at 60 per cent completion. The rail line is expected to be delivered by December 2027.
Abiodun Oladunjoye, State House Director of Information and Public Relations, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. He cited Ali Bukar, the Federal Ministry of Transportation Resident Engineer in charge of section two, who briefed a presidential media team led by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.
Bukar informed the delegation during an inspection in Jigawa that the project remains on schedule across its two primary corridors. Construction activities on the stretch from Kano to Dutse have intensified, with current efforts focused on bridge construction across challenging terrains and waterways.
According to the Resident Engineer, foundation works—including piling and substructure development for several bridges—have reached advanced stages. Furthermore, superstructure installations are currently ongoing in multiple locations to meet the 2027 delivery target.
The project has achieved significant milestones along the 104-kilometre section spanning Kano to Jigawa, as well as the branch line linking Kano to Dutse. Bukar noted that track laying, earthworks, and structural components are already in place along both alignments.
The railway development is being fully funded under the President Bola Tinubu Renewed Hope Infrastructure funding scheme. The inspection tour, initiated by the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led Renewed Hope Ambassadors, also encompassed several landmark state-level projects in the North West.
In addition to the rail project, the media team inspected the Tal-Udu interchange flyover bridge in the Gwale Local Government Area of Kano. They also visited the ongoing construction of a concrete waterline from the Kapin Chiri Dam in Garko, which is designed to bolster irrigation farming in the Kano South Senatorial District.
In Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the delegation toured the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Skills Acquisition Centre and inspected a fleet of newly acquired tractors. These state-led initiatives in agriculture and human capital development are intended to complement the federal government’s large-scale infrastructure investments in the region.
