Azeez’s brace secured victory for Millwall and took his tally for the campaign to 11 goals and eight assists, underlining his growing influence in the side’s attacking play.
Despite the win, Millwall narrowly missed out on automatic promotion, finishing third on 83 points, one behind Ipswich Town, who sealed promotion with a 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers.
Millwall will now turn their attention to the promotion play-offs, where they are set to face Hull City, featuring Nigerian defender Semi Ajayi, in the semi-finals.
The first leg is scheduled for Friday at the MKM Stadium, with the return leg to be played at The Den on May 11.
Azeez’s performance comes at a significant moment in his international career, having recently reportedly committed his future to Nigeria and attracting the attention of Eric Chelle ahead of upcoming fixtures.
With 19 goal involvements in 35 league appearances this season, the 23-year-old has emerged as a strong contender for a place in the Super Eagles squad for the Unity Cup later this month.
As Millwall prepare for their play-off challenge, Azeez’s form could prove vital in their bid for promotion, while also strengthening his case for a maiden call-up to the national team.
