The 26-year-old is set to sign a four-year contract at Old Trafford, with the club holding an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months. The transfer is expected to be completed in early July, subject to a medical, before United begin pre-season preparations.
Éderson will become Manchester United’s first signing since Michael Carrick was appointed permanent head coach last month.
The deal also includes up to £3.9 million (€4.5 million) in performance-related add-ons.
The Brazilian midfielder is expected to be the first of several additions in central midfield as United seek to reinforce a department weakened by the departure of compatriot Casemiro, whose contract expires at the end of the month.
Éderson has earned three caps for Brazil and was included in the country’s provisional 55-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup before missing out on Carlo Ancelotti’s final selection.
Éderson arrives at Old Trafford with an impressive pedigree following a successful spell at Atalanta. Renowned for his versatility, energy and ball-winning ability, he has scored 16 goals in 180 appearances across all competitions for the Italian side.
Manchester United’s recruitment strategy has undergone significant changes under minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The club has revamped its data analysis department under Michael Sansoni, the former senior Mercedes Formula One executive, who has played a key role in identifying transfer targets alongside director of football Jason Wilcox.
Carrick previously confirmed that he had been involved in recruitment discussions since succeeding Ruben Amorim on an interim basis in January, with Éderson now poised to become the first major signing of the new era at Old Trafford.
