The Command had also assured that adequate security personnel were deployed across polling units, collation centres and strategic locations within the district. However, our Correspondent who monitored the exercise could see that in several towns and communities within the senatorial district, there was no visible enforcement of the directive as vehicles operated normally on major roads. Private cars, commercial buses and motorcycles were seen transporting passengers without hindrance. Markets and shops also remained open for business throughout the period. Traders displayed goods openly, while customers moved freely to purchase items, giving the impression of a regular weekend rather than an election day restriction. In some locations, residents who spoke with BusinessDay said they were unaware of any effective enforcement, noting that life continued as usual with no major disruption to movement or commercial activities. Despite earlier warnings by the police that unauthorized movement would not be tolerated, compliance appeared minimal, as security presence on many roads was not strong enough to deter vehicular movement. The police had stated that only accredited election officials, observers, journalists and emergency responders would be exempted from the restriction, while warning against activities capable of disrupting the electoral process. The widespread movement of vehicles and continued business activities across the district, however, indicated a significant gap between the restriction order and its enforcement on the ground.
