The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow over a deadly fireworks explosion in China, which claimed at least 21 lives and left several others injured.

It also confirmed that at least 21 people lost their lives while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The explosion occurred in Liuyang City, a region widely known for its fireworks production industry, at the Huasheng Fireworks facility.
According to the statement, the blast caused extensive destruction in surrounding areas, forcing the displacement of residents and prompting emergency evacuations of nearby communities.
Authorities in China were said to have launched large-scale rescue and containment operations immediately after the incident.
“Emergency personnel were deployed to the site to search for survivors, provide medical assistance to the injured, and prevent further escalation of the disaster”, the statement said.
Nigeria commended the swift response of Chinese emergency services, noting that their rapid intervention helped mitigate the scale of the tragedy and ensured timely evacuation efforts.
“The Government and people of Nigeria extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the injured, and all those affected by this unfortunate incident,” the statement read.
The Federal Government also expressed solidarity with China during what it described as a period of profound grief, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation and shared humanity in times of crisis.
Reaffirming the cordial relations between both countries, Nigeria stressed its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with China, particularly in moments of adversity as well as progress.
The statement further conveyed Nigeria’s prayers and support to Chinese authorities as recovery and rehabilitation efforts continue in the aftermath of the explosion.
