Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for congratulating him on becoming India’s longest-serving elected prime minister, describing the Nigerian leader as a valued friend and reaffirming the strong partnership between both countries.
Responding to Tinubu’s message on X on Wednesday, Modi said he appreciated the goodwill extended by the Nigerian president and expressed confidence in the future of bilateral relations.
“Thank you President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for your warm wishes,” Modi wrote.
“I deeply value our friendship and the strong partnership between India and Nigeria. Together, we will continue to work for the progress and prosperity of our peoples and for the advancement of the Global South.”
Modi’s remarks came after Tinubu congratulated him on reaching the historic milestone of becoming India’s longest-serving elected prime minister.
In his message, Tinubu described the achievement as a reflection of the confidence and trust Indians have placed in Modi’s leadership across three consecutive electoral mandates.
“This remarkable achievement reflects the enduring confidence and trust the people of India have reposed in his leadership over three consecutive mandates,” Tinubu said.
The Nigerian president praised Modi’s record in public service, national development and global leadership, saying his stewardship continued to inspire millions around the world.
Tinubu also highlighted the personal relationship between the two leaders, describing Modi as “a personal friend and trusted ally whom I can always count on.”
“Over the years, I have come to deeply admire his wisdom, courage, and commitment to the progress and prosperity of his nation,” he added.
The president noted that Modi, a recipient of Nigeria’s national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), had played a significant role in strengthening ties between both countries.
Tinubu wished the Indian leader continued good health, wisdom and success as he continues to lead the Asian nation.
