The Anambra State Police Command has dismantled a notorious cultists’ hideout along Nwaziki Street, Awada in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, in a raid that led to the recovery of AK-47 magazines, live ammunition and other police related items.

In a press statement released on Friday, the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the operation was carried out by the operatives attached to the IGP Violent Crime Response Unit on June 20.

Ikenga said two AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and other Police-related items were recovered during a sustained raid on the suspected cultists’ hideout.
According to him, no suspect was arrested at the scene, as the suspects fled on sighting the police, but the operatives have commenced investigations to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.
He said, “Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the IGP Violent Crime Reponse Unit in the evening of June 20, 2026 recovered two AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and other Police-related items during a sustained raid on a suspected cultists’ hideout in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
“The Police team stormed the notorious black spot known for cult-related activities at Nwaziki Street, Awada.
“Although no suspect was arrested at the scene, the operatives have commenced investigations to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, establish ownership of the recovered exhibits, and unravel any criminal network linked to the items recovered.”
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, while commending the operatives for their proactive intelligence-led policing efforts, reaffirms the Command’s resolve to sustain aggressive raids against criminal elements and their enclaves across the State.
