The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has picked Mustapha Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

Shuaibu said the decision followed consultations with party stakeholders and aimed to strengthen the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He described Mustapha Kwankwaso as a committed party member whose selection would further consolidate the party’s support across the state.
“The governorship candidate of our great party, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has selected Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election in Kano State,” Shuaibu said.
According to him, the choice reflects the party’s commitment to unity, inclusiveness and effective representation.
Mustapha is the son of the National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
His emergence is expected to further strengthen the influence of the Kwankwasiyya movement within the NDC as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
Gwarzo, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, emerged as the NDC’s governorship candidate following consultations among party leaders and stakeholders.
Political observers believe the selection of Mustapha Kwankwaso could play a significant role in shaping political alignments in Kano State ahead of the governorship contest.
