According to reports, Thioune has not ruled out the possibility of Boniface featuring in the next game against Hamburger SV, though he stressed that a final decision will depend on the player’s condition after training.
“We are not ruling out any player, not even Victor. If he adapts and we see an opportunity, then he could make his comeback. I will assess his availability after the final training session,” Thioune said.
Boniface has been sidelined since December 2025 after undergoing knee surgery and is currently in the final stages of recovery. The club’s medical and technical staff are carefully managing his reintegration, prioritising a gradual return to full fitness.
The 25-year-old Nigerian forward has resumed individual training in recent weeks, raising optimism about a potential return to matchday squads. However, any involvement against Hamburg would likely be limited, with the striker expected to be eased back into action, possibly from the bench.
Thioune reiterated that caution remains key as the club looks to avoid any setbacks in the player’s recovery.
Boniface’s return would provide a timely boost for Werder Bremen as they approach a crucial stage of the Bundesliga campaign, with the Nigerian forward expected to add attacking depth and physical presence to the squad.
While no final call has been made, all indications suggest the Super Eagles striker is edging closer to making his long-awaited comeback.
