Aminu Bello Masari, with his predecessor, Ibrahim Shehu Shema, serving as co-chairman.
The state APC Chairman, Bashir Gambo Saulawa, announced the decision Sunday during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Katsina, where party leaders gathered to review preparations for the primaries.
He emphasised that the consensus model was adopted after extensive consultations and expressed confidence that it would reduce friction and enhance internal democracy.“Many states have successfully implemented this model, and we are optimistic it will strengthen unity within our party,” Saulawa said.He confirmed that the party’s timetable for the primaries had been released, providing a clear framework for all electoral activities.
In his remarks, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda called on stakeholders and members of the ruling APC to embrace consensus, unity, and discipline ahead of the party’s forthcoming primaries.
According to him, adopting consensus arrangements would not only reduce tensions associated with competitive primaries but also foster cooperation among party members across all levels.He explained that the ongoing consideration of the consensus arrangement aligns with recent high-level consultations with President Bola Tinubu.
Radda said: “The APC Chairman’s position reflects our recent discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on adopting consensus where possible and conducting primaries where necessary, in order to ensure stability within the party.”
He cautioned against any actions that could spark division or tension within the party, urging members to maintain discipline, mutual respect, and unity at all levels.
He also urged party members to put the party’s collective interest ahead of personal ambitions and to back credible candidates who genuinely represent the people’s will.
