The two-time World Cup winner, who captained Brazil to their fifth title in 2002 after a 2-0 win over Germany, said the current squad is well-positioned to reclaim the crown.
“Twenty-four years after the last title win, I think it’s the perfect moment for Brazil,” Cafu said in Madrid, where he is attending the Laureus Awards.
He also pointed to the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as a key factor, describing him as a “serial winner” capable of elevating the team further.
Cafu noted that while Brazil already possess quality in midfield and attack, Ancelotti has prioritised strengthening the defence ahead of the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
“Because if Brazil don’t concede goals in a World Cup, they’re sure to score one per game,” he added.
The former right-back also expressed confidence in Vinícius Júnior, backing the forward to shine despite recent scrutiny.
“The World Cup is the best way to overcome any kind of controversy. In those eight matches, if they reach the final, Vinícius has the potential to show the world his worth.”
Cafu also praised rising star Endrick, highlighting the benefits of his loan spell at Olympique Lyonnais.
“It did him a lot of good. It helped him grow, play, and become a key player. At Real Madrid, with so many stars, it’s difficult for a young player to establish himself,” he said.
“He’s a young player who can contribute a lot to Brazil, and I’m sure Ancelotti is looking at him favourably.”
Brazil are currently among the bookmakers’ top favourites for the 2026 World Cup.
