Addressing a meeting of stakeholders at the Old Banquet Hall of the Government House, the governor described the APM as a credible political alternative for the state.
Mohammed noted that a recent Supreme Court judgment had fundamentally altered the political landscape. The court’s split decision nullified parallel conventions held by contending PDP factions, effectively stripping both sides of legal standing and leaving the party’s advancement in a state of uncertainty.
“We have witnessed actions that do not align with the spirit and letter of the judgment, which has created significant uncertainty,” the Governor said.
He explained that after extensive consultations with national leaders and stakeholders, it became evident that efforts to restore stability within the PDP had not yielded the desired results.
The governor expressed gratitude to the PDP for its role in his political journey, acknowledging it as a platform that contributed to the development of Bauchi State and Nigeria. However, he emphasised that responsible leaders cannot allow their constituents to be left without a credible and effective political platform.
Governor Mohammed described the decision to join the APM at the state level as a firm and strategic move aimed at securing victory and serving the people with integrity. He stated that the APM offered a viable platform to mobilise supporters and present a coherent alternative to the electorate.
“We have carried out due diligence and the party is not affected by any legal impediments,” he added, asserting that the APM is currently the most credible option available. He assured his supporters that the transition would be lawful and seamless, maintained by a commitment to peace and order.
Yusuf Ahmed Dantalle, the APM National Chairman, welcomed Mohammed and his followers to the party. Dantalle highlighted Bauchi State’s unique position in northern Nigerian politics and its reputation for fair democratic competition and inclusivity.
Dantalle characterised the APM as a transparent organisation free from “hidden godfathers,” where the voices of all members—regardless of age or gender—are respected. He expressed confidence that the governor’s entry would consolidate the party’s influence across all segments of society.
