In a service interruption notice issued on Sunday, EKEDP said it lost supply from the national grid at exactly 13:49hrs on Sunday, June 28, 2026, resulting in a widespread disruption of electricity supply across its franchise area.
In a service interruption notice issued on Sunday, EKEDP said it lost supply from the national grid at exactly 13:49hrs on Sunday, June 28, 2026, resulting in a widespread disruption of electricity supply across its franchise area.
This development comes less than a week after experiencing reduced generation output from Egbin Power Station and a fault on the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.
The distribution company said the outage affected its entire network, leaving customers across Lagos and adjoining communities without electricity.
“Please be informed that Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (EKEDP) lost supply from the national grid at 13:49hrs today, Sunday 28 June 2026. This is currently affecting electricity supply across our entire network,” the company said.
EKEDP attributed the disruption to a transmission-level incident, stressing that the outage originated outside its operational control.
“This is a transmission-level incident outside our direct control. We are actively investigating the cause and are in contact with the relevant authorities to establish the full situation and restoration timeline,” the company stated.
The latest disruption highlights the persistent fragility of Nigeria’s electricity value chain, where operational disturbances on the transmission network often cascade through distribution companies, leaving millions of customers without power.
Although EKEDP did not disclose the specific cause of the loss of supply, its statement suggests the disruption originated from the national transmission infrastructure rather than faults within its own distribution network.
The company said it was working closely with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the incident and facilitate the restoration of electricity supply.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this is causing and assure you that our teams are working to restore normal supply as quickly as possible,” the statement added.
EKEDP, however, did not provide an estimated restoration time, noting that updates would be communicated once confirmed information became available.
“Further updates will be communicated as soon as confirmed information is available,” it said.
The incident is expected to affect residential consumers, commercial establishments and industrial customers served by EKEDP until supply from the national grid is restored.
The outage once again brings into focus the dependence of electricity distribution companies on the national transmission network, where disruptions frequently translate into widespread blackouts despite the readiness of distribution infrastructure.
Customers across the EKEDP franchise area were advised to await further communication from the company as investigations into the transmission incident continue.
