Abiodun Accuses Gbenga Daniel Of Sponsoring Media Attacks Amid Ogun APC Rift

Governor of Ogun state Abiodun accuses Gbenga Daniel of sponsoring media attacks as Ogun APC crisis deepens over 2027 senatorial race.

Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has accused Gbenga Daniel of sponsoring negative media campaigns against him, deepening a growing rift within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Abiodun made the allegation on Tuesday during the Ogun East APC stakeholders’ meeting, held barely a week after he was endorsed as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.

The development comes amid resistance from Daniel, who represents Ogun East in the senate. The senator, who addressed supporters outside the meeting venue, dismissed any resolutions reached at the gathering, declaring them “null and void”. He also defied the consensus arrangement by purchasing the APC nomination form to seek re-election.

Speaking at the meeting, Abiodun revisited his long-standing political relationship with Daniel, recounting the support he claimed to have given the senator in the past.

“I was here when Ibikunle Amosun became governor. I was here when Governor Daniel was governor. I actually ran against Governor Daniel then,” Abiodun said.

“But as soon as he emerged from the primaries, I was one of the first to congratulate him. I gave him all my structures. I delivered them to him and supported him.”

The governor emphasised that his backing was both deliberate and decisive in Daniel’s emergence as senator.

“I know what I did for Governor Daniel to become a senator. I have never said this publicly, and I am saying it now,” he said.

“I know what my intervention was to get them to step down for him (Daniel) to emerge as senator. Segun Adesegun is here. Senator Mustapha, they are here. They were the frontrunners in that election.”

Abiodun further stated that he played a key role in facilitating Daniel’s return to the APC after assuming office as governor.

“I held his hand to ensure that he was integrated back into the party. These are facts,” he said.

“We entrusted it to him. If Governor Daniel now believes that the only way to repay me is by sponsoring negative media attacks against me, I leave him to his conscience.”

Despite the internal tensions, the governor expressed appreciation for the support he received from party leaders in Ogun East and pledged not to disappoint them.

“We are equally confident that Ogun East, alongside the entire state, will stand united to deliver Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the next Governor of Ogun State,” Abiodun said.

“Together, we will also deliver resounding support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Ogun State will record the highest number of votes in the South West.

“This is our collective resolve, and we remain fully committed to making it a reality.”
