President Bola Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election after polling 10,999,967 votes in the party’s direct primary election held across the country.

Tinubu defeated his only challenger, Stanley Osifo, who garnered 16,504 votes from the 37 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The results were collated at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja following the nationwide direct primary conducted simultaneously in all 8,809 wards on Saturday.
A formal declaration and presentation of certificate of return to the president is expected to be made by the party’s Chief Returning Officer on Sunday.
Tinubu recorded his highest tally in Lagos State with 814,988 votes, followed by Adamawa with 644,149 and Kaduna with 618,914 votes. He also secured 582,960 votes in Imo and 500,852 in Kano.
Osifo’s strongest performance came from Niger State where he polled 5,248 votes. He also recorded 2,675 votes in Kano, 2,650 in Bauchi and 1,007 in Abia. He failed to secure any vote in several states and the FCT.
Other major results for Tinubu include Katsina 467,003; Gombe 450,517; Borno 414,988; Delta 407,646; Akwa Ibom 389,197; Enugu 383,382; Benue 374,787; Ogun 322,485; Zamfara 321,579; Kwara 310,990; Sokoto 301,000; Kebbi 292,972; Nasarawa 285,436; Rivers 280,082; and Yobe 253,804.
BusinessDay reports that the exercise marked the APC’s first presidential primary conducted through a direct voting system involving registered party members nationwide.
