The state police command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, made the disclosure on Monday.
He said claimants would be required to report at the Imo State Police Command Headquarters, Owerri, or the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, with credible proof of ownership, including purchase receipts, registration documents, engine and chassis numbers, or any other verifiable means of identification.
According to him, strict verification procedures would be followed to ensure that all recovered motorcycles were released only to their rightful owners, in line with established legal and professional standards.
Okoye said, “The Imo State Police Command, further to its earlier press release issued on April 6, 2026 on the recovery of over 450 motorcycles suspected to be stolen, wishes to reiterate that a significant number of these exhibits remain unclaimed and are currently in police custody pending proper identification by their rightful owners.
“Accordingly, the command hereby calls on members of the public whose motorcycles were stolen or snatched at any time, within and outside Imo State, to present themselves for identification and possible recovery.
“Claimants are required to report at the Imo State Police Command Headquarters, Owerri, or the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, with credible proof of ownership, including purchase receipts, registration documents, engine and chassis numbers, or any other verifiable means of identification.
“The command assures all that strict verification procedures will be followed to ensure that all recovered motorcycles are released only to their rightful owners, in line with established legal and professional standards.”
The command also expressed appreciation for the sustained cooperation of Imo people and said it remained committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
The command had on April 6 disclosed that a total of 450 motorcycles were recovered from a syndicate that specialised in the theft of motorcycles at gunpoint.
