The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has visited communities in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following a deadly attack and abduction incident that occurred in the area.

The statement noted that the IG expressed deep concern over the incident and sympathised with families of victims who lost their lives during the attack that happened in the early hours of Friday.
The statement read, “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, today paid a visit to Oyo State following the tragic attack and abduction incident that occurred in Oriire Local Government Area of the State in the early hours of Friday, 15th May, 2026.
“The IGP was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, owing to the strategic proximity of the Oriire axis to communities bordering Kwara State, as well as the Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle, in furtherance of ongoing efforts to strengthen school safety and coordinate effective response measures.
“During the visit, the Inspector-General met with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, alongside other security stakeholders, where he received operational briefings on ongoing rescue efforts and security deployments across the affected communities.”
The statement further said the police chief assured residents, parents and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, alongside other security agencies, had intensified coordinated search-and-rescue operations to secure the release of the abducted victims.
“The IGP assured residents, parents, and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, has intensified coordinated search-and-rescue operations, intelligence gathering, and tactical deployments aimed at securing the safe return of all abducted victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice,” it added. Disu condemned the attack, describing it as “cruel and unacceptable,” while directing the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to strengthen ongoing operations across the area and adjoining forests.
The Force Headquarters reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remained committed to the protection of schools, communities and citizens across the country.
Recall that attackers, who operated on motorcycles, simultaneously invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, as well as Community Grammar School/L. A Primary School, Esiele, abducting pupils, students and staff members, including the Vice Principal, Mrs Alamu Folawe.
Condemning the incident, the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, disclosed that his administration has been working with security agencies to get clarity on what happened at the community and how to prevent future occurrences.
Makinde, therefore, urged community leaders and residents of the state to be watchful and vigilant about their environments and report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.
He assured the people of the state that his government would continue to demonstrate commitment to combating crimes and working effectively with security agencies to secure the state.
