Laja Adeoye has emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 election in Lagos State, pledging to “Reset Lagos” and end what he described as years of exclusion and poor governance under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking after his affirmation at the party’s governorship primary in Lagos on Thursday, Adeoye said the APM is ready to offer Lagosians an alternative built on “inclusive prosperity,” accountability and economic reforms.
“I stand before you today with a heart full of gratitude and a spirit burning with purpose,” he said. “I wish to express my profound appreciation for the singular honour and privilege you have bestowed upon me to lead our great party, the APM, as the governorship candidate for 2027 election.”
Adeoye described the consensus process that produced him as evidence of internal democracy within the party.
“In our party, APM, members are free to express their views. Nobody is going to stop you in APM from contesting. Nobody is going to impose you on anybody. This is a place where democracy domiciles,” he said.
The governorship candidate also thanked leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos for their support within the alliance backing the APM, while accusing unnamed forces of attempting to frustrate the coalition.
Adeoye used the occasion to criticise the APC-led administration in Lagos, accusing it of failing to address economic hardship, flooding, housing and infrastructure challenges.
“For too long, the APC has governed our state with reckless impunity,” he said. “What they proudly call development has brought unbearable hunger to our homes, bringing poverty to the streets and hopelessness to thousands.”
He said his administration would implement a development blueprint tagged “Atunto Eko 1.0,” which he described as a roadmap for economic growth, housing, education, healthcare and security reforms.
“Our bold ‘Reset Lagos’ actionable roadmap with clear pillars, measurable targets, timelines and key performance indicators,” he said.
On the economy, Adeoye promised to reduce barriers to investment, support small businesses and develop Lagos’ marine resources.
“Nothing is stopping Lagos being the frontline ocean economy in the world, and in our administration, we are going to make it happen,” he said.
He also pledged to tackle unemployment through industrial hubs, independent power projects and skills development for young people.
“Our youth will no longer be idle. They will be empowered, skilled and employed,” he added.
The APM candidate promised large-scale affordable housing projects and criticised what he called “reckless, heartless demolition” policies in the state.
“We will launch a massive people-friendly housing revolution, delivering decent affordable homes on a scale never seen before in the history of Lagos,” the real estate expert pledged.
Adeoye further pledged reforms in education and healthcare, promising investment in schools, vocational training and public hospitals.
On security, he advocated community policing and the establishment of Amotekun in Lagos State.
“Lagos State is the only state among the six states in southwest Nigeria that does not have Amotekun,” he said.
The governorship candidate also addressed ethnic tensions in Lagos politics, promising an inclusive administration.
“Under our administration, we are campaigning for one Lagos, an inclusive Lagos, a prosperous Lagos, a Lagos that gives opportunity to every Lagosian irrespective of where you come from,” he said.
Adeoye urged party members and supporters to mobilise ahead of the 2027 election. “Let us Reset Lagos, let us re-engineer Lagos for inclusive prosperity,” he said.
