China Dismisses US Allegations Of Military Pressure On Taiwan As ‘Distorted’

China dismisses US military pressure on Taiwan, calling them distorted and politically motivated interference in its internal affairs.

China has strongly criticised the United States over claims that it is increasing military pressure on Taiwan, describing such assertions as misleading and politically motivated.

Speaking in Beijing on Wednesday, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, said certain figures in Washington were exaggerating the so-called “mainland threat” narrative, accusing them of deliberately distorting facts to serve ulterior motives.

He stressed that Taiwan remains an internal matter for China and warned that Beijing would not tolerate any form of foreign interference in its affairs.

Chen also urged the United States to exercise caution in handling Taiwan-related issues, calling for a more measured and responsible approach.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region, as China continues to ramp up military activities around Taiwan, including a series of war games and live-fire drills conducted in recent months.

Beijing has consistently opposed US arms sales to Taiwan, despite Washington being the island’s most significant international supporter.

The US State Department recently called on China to reduce military pressure and engage in dialogue with Taiwan, following a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Taiwanese opposition figure Cheng Li-wun in Beijing.

However, China maintains its refusal to engage with Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te, whom it labels a separatist. Lai has repeatedly rejected Beijing’s sovereignty claims, insisting that only the people of Taiwan have the right to determine their future.

While China continues to advocate for what it describes as “peaceful reunification,” it has not ruled out the use of force, emphasising both the strategic and economic benefits it believes reunification would bring.
