Ride-hailing platform Bolt has donated N5 million to SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria after successfully converting thousands of everyday trips into support for vulnerable children and families through its “Rides That Care” campaign.

Under the campaign, Bolt pledged to contribute a portion of earnings from rides completed during the five-day period to support the work of SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria. The programme allowed customers to participate in charitable giving through their regular journeys without paying any extra fees or taking additional action.
The donation comes at a time when child welfare organisations across Nigeria continue to face growing pressure from economic challenges affecting vulnerable households. By linking everyday mobility services with charitable causes, Bolt said it sought to make giving more accessible and inclusive.
Speaking on the donation, Teddy Appa-Dankyi, senior general manager for West Africa at Bolt, said the campaign showed the power of collective action.
“The response to the Rides That Care campaign demonstrates the impact that can be created when everyday actions are connected to a meaningful purpose. We are delighted to contribute five million naira to SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria and support the important work they do for vulnerable children and families,” he said.
According to him, the initiative reflects Bolt’s belief that mobility platforms can play a broader role in society by creating positive change within the communities where they operate.
The funds will be used to support programmes focused on child welfare, family strengthening, education and care services aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable children across Nigeria.
Beyond the donation itself, the campaign highlights a growing trend among technology companies seeking to combine commercial operations with social responsibility initiatives. Industry observers note that digital platforms are increasingly leveraging their large customer bases to mobilise support for humanitarian causes and community projects.
Bolt stressed that the donation was funded entirely by the company and had no impact on the earnings of its driver-partners. Drivers received their normal income from completed trips throughout the campaign, with no deductions made to support the initiative.
The company said the success of the campaign demonstrates how thousands of small daily actions can collectively create meaningful change when businesses, customers and communities work together towards a common goal.
For SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria, the contribution is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts to provide care, protection and support for children facing difficult circumstances, while helping families build more stable and sustainable futures.
