Fast-rising Afrobeat artist, Marvin Ukanigbe, popularly known as Mavo, has become the latest celebrity victim of street extortion in Lagos after hoodlums reportedly attacked his vehicle when he refused to give them money.

A clip he uploaded on Tuesday on his Snapchat handle showed a group of young men, commonly referred to as “area boys”, surrounding his car in the Island area of Lagos State.

The confrontation reportedly began after the group demanded money from the artiste, and escalated when he declined.
In the footage, the attackers appeared visibly agitated as the car moved slowly through the area, with shouting and stone-throwing captured in the background.
The incident has since sparked concern online, especially as similar cases have been reported in parts of Lagos.
In a follow-up post shared on his Snapchat handle, Mavo appeared to suggest that some of the suspects may have been apprehended, though this could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.
PUNCH Online also notes that content creator Samuel Bankole popularly known as Samuel Banks previously raised an alarm over a similar encounter in the same area, alleging that hoodlums attempted to damage his car after he refused to give them money.
TikTok personality, Hamzat Habeeb, known as Peller has also complained about threats from street thugs in Lagos after refusing to comply with demands for money.
