A bus driver in Taiwan has gone viral on social media after breaking down in tears following an altercation with a female passenger aboard his vehicle.
In the video originally uploaded on Threads on Friday by #wjsscc._.830, a middle-aged woman standing next to the driver’s seat can be seen arguing with the driver aboard bus service 38 in New Taipei City.
Asai One reports that, according to their conversation, she had tapped her card on the scanner but did not press the stop button, causing her to miss her stop.
She then accused the driver of skipping her stop, to which he vehemently denied.

“It didn’t light up at all. Try pressing it again and see. It didn’t light up, so I didn’t know,” he continued, insisting that she did not press the bell as the indicator would have lit up.
“Try pressing it again, help me press it,” he asked other passengers to press the stop button to prove the woman wrong.
“How is it?” The driver questioned the woman after showing her how the bell worked. “You don’t have to be so fierce!”
As the two continued to argue, the driver stopped the vehicle and got out of his seat.
“Please don’t bully the bus driver, the bus driver has heart problems,” he said, referring to himself in the third person and threatening to call the police.
“I also have a heart condition. I went for an operation,” the woman responded. Taiwan bus driver and passenger compare medical histories during argument. Credit: Threads| wjsscc._.830 Taiwan bus driver and passenger compare medical histories during argument. Credit: Threads| wjsscc._.830
“I’ve also gone for surgery, don’t speak loudly,” the driver responded, touching his chest.
As a seated passenger tried to advise the woman on how the bell works and to ensure that she sees the sign lit up next time, the driver returned to his seat, simply telling them to call the police.
“I pressed it, and it didn’t light up. I’m sorry,” the woman apologised.

“Why do you have to bully the driver? You really didn’t press it. Why must you raise your voice?” He cried out as he placed his head on the steering wheel in tears.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry,” the woman apologised.
According to Taiwan’s Formosa TV News, the driver surnamed Huang, afterwards, maintained his professional ethics and continued working, allowing the woman to get off at the next stop.
Following the incident, a spokesperson for the bus company said the driver has been given time off and will be provided with counselling, according to Channel News Asia.
The spokesperson said the driver will also be given a red packet as a form of encouragement, the report added.
