The United States Embassy in the United Kingdom has issued a fresh security advisory urging Americans to remain vigilant while in the United Kingdom, following a rise in threat levels and growing concerns over potential attacks.

“Keep a low profile; remain aware of your surroundings; review your personal security plans,” the Embassy stated in an advisory on Friday, warning citizens to stay alert in public places such as schools, hospitals, churches, tourist locations, and transportation hubs.
“Keep a low profile; remain aware of your surroundings; review your personal security plans,” the Embassy stated in an advisory on Friday, warning citizens to stay alert in public places such as schools, hospitals, churches, tourist locations, and transportation hubs.
It also urged individuals to report suspicious activity and any threats encountered on social media.
The warning comes as the UK’s Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) raised the national terrorism threat level from “substantial” to “severe,” indicating that an attack is considered highly likely in the near term.
The decision follows a stabbing incident in Golders Green, north London, which police have formally declared a terrorist act.
The attack, which targeted members of the Jewish community, has heightened concerns about public safety and prompted increased security measures.
A 45-year-old suspect, Essa Suleiman, a Somali-born British national, has been charged with multiple offenses, including attempted murder.
A preliminary court hearing in the case is scheduled for May 15.
However, UK officials stressed that the threat level increase was not based solely on the Golders Green attack.
“The change reflects a broader and evolving threat picture,” authorities said, citing risks posed by both radical Islamist networks and extreme right-wing groups operating within the country.
The UK last recorded a “severe” threat level in November 2021, following incidents such as the Liverpool Women’s Hospital bombing and the killing of Sir David Amess.
Security officials say the latest advisory and threat level adjustment are precautionary, aimed at increasing awareness and preventing further attacks, while encouraging the public to remain cautious but not alarmed.
