The hit animated musical will be released as part of the prestigious Criterion Collection on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD, marking the first time the film will be widely available outside streaming platforms.
The release follows the film’s limited theatrical screenings and a later sing-along cinema version.
Criterion Collection editions are known for restored visuals, upgraded audio and bonus content, although full details for the release have not yet been confirmed.
The current listing on Amazon shows a provisional release date of December 31, though reports suggest the date could change ahead of the holiday season.
Writers behind the film have previously teased deleted scenes, including a storyline inspired by South Korea’s “Idol Star Athletics Championships”, where K-pop stars compete in sporting events and team contests.
The Criterion Collection has previously released special editions of films including Monty Python’s Life of Brian featuring cast commentaries, documentaries and behind-the-scenes material.
Criterion says its editions are designed to present films “as its maker would want it seen” through high-quality restorations and special features.
The release is considered significant because Netflix productions rarely receive physical home releases, particularly through Criterion.
