The former governor, who led Ondo State between 2009 and 2016, said his decision was informed by what he described as the Tinubu administration’s efforts towards national development, education and security reforms.
According to him, the current administration has initiated programmes capable of moving the country forward, noting that he was joining the APC to contribute to the ongoing reforms.
“There are a lot of good things being done by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government, and though much more still needs to be done, I am coming in to lend my support to ongoing efforts to keep Nigeria on the path of peace, progress and genuine development,” Mimiko said.
He specifically praised the federal government’s student loan initiative under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and ongoing discussions on state policing, describing both as progressive steps deserving support.
Welcoming the former governor into the party, Ondo State APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, described Mimiko as “a progressive through and through,” noting that his entry into the APC amounted to a homecoming.
Also speaking, former House of Representatives member, Joseph Akinlaja, said Mimiko’s defection signaled the full integration of his political structure into the APC ahead of future elections in the state.
