In a statement issued on Sunday by its Secretary-General, Yusuf Abubakar, a copy of which was made available to Arewa PUNCH, the group said the federal government had demonstrated resolve in addressing the country’s security challenges, particularly in the North-West, where sustained military operations have weakened the activities of armed bandits.
According to the movement, ongoing security offensives have disrupted criminal networks operating in several states, restoring confidence among residents in affected communities.
“The progress made in degrading the operational capacity of bandits across several states deserves recognition and encouragement,” Abubakar said.
“While isolated attacks still occur, there is no doubt that our gallant Armed Forces have intensified operations deep inside notorious forest hideouts, dismantling criminal enclaves and restoring hope to affected communities.”
The group noted that recent military operations in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger and Kwara states had resulted in the destruction of bandit camps and the elimination of several notorious criminal kingpins.
It singled out Operation Fansan Yamma for commendation, describing it as one of the most effective military campaigns against insecurity in the North-West and urging security forces to sustain the ongoing momentum until lasting peace is achieved.
The NEPM also praised the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, for providing strategic leadership and support that, it said, had strengthened military operations across the region.
“It is important that Nigerians appreciate and support the sacrifices being made daily by our security personnel. Their courage, resilience and patriotism deserve the collective backing of every citizen,” the statement added.
The movement further appealed to Nigerians to put national interest above ethnic, religious and political differences, stressing that unity remains essential to the country’s progress.
“No amount of sacrifice towards preserving Nigeria’s unity, political stability and peaceful coexistence is too much. We must continue to tolerate one another, respect constituted authority and work together for the good of future generations. Our country needs greater political goodwill, patriotism and national solidarity now more than ever,” the group stated.
It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security and inclusive development, expressing confidence that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges through responsible leadership, public cooperation and national unity.
