Wadada explained that the move is aimed at ensuring he gets the needed support from other aspirants to fly the party’s flag in 2027, as requested by the governor during his endorsement last Thursday.
He gave the hint on Friday during a mega rally organised by his supporters and members of the APC in Keffi Local Government Area.
PUNCH Online earlier reported Sule made the declaration during a meeting with political appointees and heads of government agencies at the Government House in Lafia.
The governor said the decision followed consultations that lasted over a year and involved stakeholders within and outside the state. Photo Caption: Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada addressing his supporters during the mega rally in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
While receiving a rousing welcome from supporters who gathered in large numbers, the senator, on Friday, expressed appreciation for the show of support, noting that the unity and commitment displayed had strengthened his resolve to pursue a shared vision of progress, peace and sustainable development for the state.
He described the event as one of the largest political gatherings in recent times, which, according to him, reflects the increasing acceptance of his governorship ambition aimed at ensuring growth and development across the 13 local government areas of the state.
Senator Wadada further expressed gratitude to governorship aspirants who accepted the governor’s decision and declared support for him, assuring that he would prioritise the state above personal gains if elected in 2027.
He commended members of the State Assembly, commissioners, political appointees and other stakeholders for their solidarity and dedication to the collective aspirations of the people.
He said, “It is an honor and privilege for me to stand before you today as a preferred aspirant to the governorship of Nasarawa State for 2027. Preferred by His Excellency, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, my elder brother, our amiable governor, our humble, patient and performing governor. The task before me today is simple.
“It is for me to first register my gratitude and by extension our gratitude to the Almighty God. I also extend my gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule. Today, I cannot thank him enough for taking the decision he has taken. That makes it imperative for every citizen of Nasarawa State to be proud of the kind of governor we have.
“He is a governor that does not only perform within the confines of the discharge of his responsibilities, but he is a governor that works the talks. When he talks, he works it. That is commendable and credible. I pray that the Lord rewards him abundantly.”
Senator Wadada added, “To my fellow aspirants, the least I can say is for God to reward you all. For the kind of understanding, for the level of acceptance and for the level of commitment that you have shown, that has gone a long way to prove to the world that we were all aspiring for the good of the people of Nasarawa State.
“We made a promise to the governor that when and if he picks one out of all of us, we shall all accept and ride around the person. And when he did, you all conformed and kept to the promise we made. May God reward everyone of you.”
He urged supporters to refrain from insulting or engaging in disputes with other party members or supporters of aspirants who were not endorsed.
Reaffirming his commitment to unity and peaceful engagement, he emphasised that the journey ahead requires collective effort and urged supporters to remain steadfast and focused.
On his part, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, announced that all 16 APC members of the Assembly and the entire House had unanimously endorsed Senator Wadada.
Similarly, the Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area and Chairman of ALGON in the state, Safiyanu Isa Andaha, declared that all local government areas in the state support Governor Sule’s choice of Wadada as his preferred successor.
He commended the governor for what he described as a “strategic and visionary decision.”
The APC Western Zone Chairman, Isaiah Agah, expressed gratitude that the zone had been given the opportunity to produce the next governor, describing it as a step towards unity and balanced development across the state.
The Keffi rally was widely regarded as a defining political moment, setting the tone for the build-up to the 2027 governorship election.
In a related development, Senator Wadada paid homage to the Emir of Keffi, Shehu Chindo Yamusa III. The Emir offered royal blessings and counsel, describing the visit as timely and symbolic.
