The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians about the circulation of unregistered and suspected counterfeit Colgate toothpaste in Kaduna State.

The alert was disclosed in a public notice issued by the agency following a complaint received by its Post-Marketing Surveillance (PMS) Directorate.

According to NAFDAC, the complaint triggered an investigation, leading PMS officials to inspect a retail outlet where the products were reportedly being sold.
During the inspection, officials discovered two suspected counterfeit products branded as Coglaet ActivGel 100g and Coglaet Herbal 100g being sold at the shop.
The shop owner reportedly told investigators that the products were purchased from a door-to-door sales representative but failed to provide proof of purchase.
NAFDAC noted that the counterfeit products have been removed from circulation at the identified outlet

NAFDAC has advised distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of products before purchase or sale.
Consumers are encouraged to report suspected counterfeit or substandard products to the nearest NAFDAC office or through its official communication channels, including its helpline and online reporting platforms.
Healthcare professionals and patients have also been urged to report any adverse effects linked to the use of such products, as the agency continues efforts to curb the circulation of counterfeit goods.
In a recent safety alert, the agency flagged a suspected revalidated SMA Gold infant formula discovered in Kaduna State after altered expiry dates were linked to illness in a four-month-old infant.
NAFDAC has also destroyed unwholesome and expired medical products valued at more than N15 billion in Ibadan, removing falsified and harmful drugs from circulation to protect public health.
