Putin Promises Support For Iran In Middle East Peace Efforts

Russian President Putin vows support for Iran, as Araghchi says US “achieved none of their goals” and seeks negotiations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday assured Iran of Moscow’s backing in efforts to restore peace in the Middle East, telling Tehran’s top diplomat that Russia would act in the interests of regional stability.

Speaking during a meeting in St. Petersburg with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Putin said Moscow remained committed to supporting both Iran and the wider region.

“For our part, we will do everything that serves your interests, the interests of all the people of the region, so that peace can be achieved as soon as possible,” Putin was quoted by Russian state media as saying.

He also praised Iran’s resilience amid ongoing tensions, stating that “how courageously and heroically the people of Iran are fighting for their independence and sovereignty.”

Reaffirming bilateral ties, the Russian leader added, “Russia, just like Iran, intends to continue our strategic relationship.”

Araghchi, who arrived in Russia for talks with Putin and other senior officials, blamed the United States for the breakdown of negotiations aimed at ending the conflict, even as a ceasefire between the sides continues to hold.

Araghchi said Washington had failed to achieve its objectives in the war against Iran.

“The U.S. has achieved none of their goals,” he said. “That’s why they ask for negotiation. We are now considering it.”

Responding to questions about Moscow’s role, the Iranian foreign minister underscored the depth of ties between the two countries.

“Iran and Russia are strategic partners,” Araghchi said, adding that the two nations “have always supported” each other.

“Our cooperation would continue,” he added.
