According to the government, the move reflects the administration’s commitment under Governor Dauda Lawal to prioritise the welfare of pensioners and ensure that retirees receive their entitlements promptly.
“The Zamfara State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal, has directed the Office of the Accountant General to immediately commence the payment of gratuities to beneficiaries under Batch 4 covering the 2024–2025 exercise,” the statement read.
It added that the decision underscores what it described as the administration’s “sincerity and compassion” in addressing pension-related challenges across the state.
“The government recognises the sacrifices and dedicated services rendered by retirees toward the development of Zamfara State and remains determined to prioritise their wellbeing,” it said.
Beneficiaries under the Batch 4 category were advised to cooperate with relevant authorities to ensure a smooth payment process, while the Accountant General’s office was instructed to ensure efficiency and transparency in implementation.
The government also reaffirmed its broader commitment to improving the living conditions of workers, retirees, and residents through what it described as people-oriented policies.
It said, “Government will continue to introduce people-oriented initiatives aimed at enhancing socio-economic development across the state.”
The development comes alongside the approval of an upward review of pensions for state and local government retirees, aimed at cushioning the impact of rising living costs.
According to the statement, the review followed recommendations from a special committee and the Office of the Accountant General, which assessed the financial conditions of pensioners, particularly those in lower income brackets.
It noted that the adjustment was driven by current economic realities that have made existing pension payments insufficient for many retirees.
