The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) described the award as a fitting recognition of Professor Useh’s outstanding contributions to the growth of physiotherapy in Africa and around the world.
In a statement issued by Oyinlola Felix Odusanya, the president of the NSP, the society congratulated Useh and praised his commitment to professional excellence, leadership and service.
According to Odusanya, Useh has continued to make Nigeria proud through his achievements in academics, research and professional practice.
“Professor Useh remains a source of pride to Nigeria and the physiotherapy profession, having distinguished himself through academic excellence, professional leadership and service to the profession across the continent,” he said.
The NSP noted that before relocating to South Africa, Professor Useh served as the Public Relations Officer of the society and played an active role in advancing the profession in Nigeria.
The society added that he has continued to contribute significantly to physiotherapy education, research and professional development across Africa from his base in South Africa.
The award also highlights Nigeria’s long-standing contribution to physiotherapy on the continent. The NSP recalled that the first recipient of the World Physiotherapy Africa Region Award was also a Nigerian, Thompson Abayomi Oshin, widely recognised as the first trained African physiotherapist and the first physiotherapist in Nigeria.
The NSP said the recognition of two distinguished Nigerians as recipients of the prestigious continental award reflects Nigeria’s enduring impact on the development of physiotherapy in Africa.
The society expressed confidence that Professor Useh’s achievement would inspire younger physiotherapists across Nigeria and the continent to pursue excellence, innovation and leadership in healthcare.
The award further strengthens Nigeria’s reputation as a leading contributor to the advancement of physiotherapy education, practice and research in Africa.
