Its state chairman, Mr Phillip Adeniji, who described vote trading as an obstacle to the emergence of credible candidates in elections, said the party was out to make vote selling and buying impossible in next week’s poll.
Adeniji, in a chat with journalists in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, said, “In the course of the sensitisation, our message to the Accord polling agents and Ekiti residents generally is for them to be on the alert and make sure none of the political parties carries out the act of buying or selling votes during this election.
“We in Accord are trying to make this election a template to be emulated going forward into any other election.
“We want to change the narrative in Ekiti State. We want a new name of sanity, of civility, whereby people will reckon with us in the global space in terms of following the rule of engagement in the conduct of elections.”
The Accord state chairman said that the party was working around the clock to win the governorship election based on the growing acceptance of the party among Ekiti people and in view of the love and respect residents have for its governorship candidate, Opeyemi Falegan.
He said, “Our party is very much on the ground. We have a strong, reliable and acceptable candidate who is on the ground, a philanthropist, who has been rendering assistance to the people of Ekiti State across different levels through his Opeyemi David Falegan Foundation for the past 10 years.
“The Accord candidate has been giving to the needy, orphans, widows and the less privileged for the past 10 years.
“He is also buying fuel for private and commercial vehicles and motorbikes across the state as a kind of subsidy to subsidise the hardship occasioned by high fuel prices on the populace.
“This election is a time to reciprocate his gesture by the Ekiti populace.”
Adeniji said his party had been canvassing for Ekiti people’s votes through an issue-based campaign centred on the party’s manifesto.
He said, “We have our sights on good governance. Our government intends to make a difference in the area of security.
“Our candidate is a trained United Kingdom Air Force officer. He knows what to do to ward off bandits and criminals making incursions into the state to perpetrate acts such as killings, kidnapping and attacks.”
The Accord chairman listed other areas the party, if elected on June 20, would impact in the state to include agriculture modernisation and industrialisation, education and youth empowerment, as well as health and infrastructure development.
