Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Kano State governor, has said the internal crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is similar to the turmoil that forced him and his allies out of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Kwankwaso, who spoke amid speculation of a possible move to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), said consultations were ongoing but stressed that no final decision had been reached.
He revealed that he and other stakeholders were engaging leaders across political platforms to determine their next steps.
“We have commenced wide-ranging consultations including with leaders from the NDC, PRP and others to explore the best option.
“We have noted recent media reports and discussions suggesting a possible realignment within the ADC due to the current challenges facing the party. No final decision has been taken regarding my political future or that of my political associates,”he said.
The former presidential candidate blamed the uncertainty within the ADC on a series of legal disputes, including conflicting court rulings that have unsettled the party’s leadership structure. “The recent Supreme Court judgement has left the party in a precarious position,” he said.
He also pointed to fresh complications arising from a Federal High Court ruling on the party’s convention, as well as a move by the Attorney General of the Federation seeking to deregister the party.
Drawing a direct comparison with his experience in NNPP, Kwankwaso said the pattern was familiar. “We left the NNPP due to externally influenced legal problems that made our stay perilous. The ADC has now also been forced into this difficulty,” he said.
On reports linking him to the ADC presidential ticket, Kwankwaso dismissed the claims as unfounded.
“The ADC is yet to zone its presidential ticket. I have neither declared any intention to run for president nor endorsed any aspirant,” he said. He also clarified that his absence from recent stakeholders’ meetings was due to personal reasons, noting that he had informed party leaders accordingly.
Kwankwaso assured supporters that a clear position would be made public soon. “Any definitive position on our political direction will be communicate at the appropriate time,”he said.
