Speaking during the opening ceremony of the workshop organised by the Directorate of Media and Communication, Government House Katsina, Maiwada Dammallam, the Director-General of Media, said the training was aimed at addressing unprofessionalism among media aides and equipping them with modern communication skills.
According to him, the growing influence of digital communication and artificial intelligence has made it necessary for media handlers to adapt to global trends in information dissemination.
“We live in a world of communication. There is currently an indispensable tool of communication, that is artificial intelligence, which is globally adopted in strategic communication,” he said.
He added that social media platforms now provide faster and more convenient means of communication compared to conventional media channels.
“You cannot do this unless you have fair knowledge of the tools with which you will use to deliver the task for which you are engaged as social media influencers and image makers. So I implore you to kindly pay much attention to this workshop, for I am sure you will be the better ones,” Dammallam stated.
The DG Media noted that the initiative was inspired by the administration of Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, whom he described as visionary in embracing modern communication strategies.
“It is the recognition of the importance of social media and the global trend in adopting artificial intelligence that prompted this under the visionary leadership of Dr. Umaru Radda,” he said.
The workshop, themed “Harnessing Social Media and AI for Effective Policy Implementation and Strategic Communication,” had Optima Image Limited as consultant.
One of the participants, Jamil Hashimu, Media Assistant in the Office of the Deputy Governor, described the training as timely and beneficial.
“Well, we are here today to improve our skills on information dissemination and propagating government policies and programmes to the citizens of Katsina State,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the workshop would improve the capacity of media aides in effectively communicating government activities to the public.
“This workshop will go a long way in improving all the media assistants and other media officials of the Katsina State Government to improve on their ability to send information to the populace,” he added.
