Nigeria midfielder Frank Onyeka has completed a permanent transfer to newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City after helping the club secure promotion to the English top flight, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Onyeka initially joined the Sky Blues on loan from Brentford in January and played a key role in Frank Lampard’s side’s Championship-winning campaign.

The midfielder made 14 appearances for Coventry, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
His only goal proved crucial, helping the club to a 3-2 victory over Derby County in April.
The 28-year-old joins Coventry with a wealth of Premier League experience, having made 75 top-flight appearances during his time at Brentford.
Speaking after completing his permanent move to the Coventry Building Society Arena, Onyeka said, “I’m really excited for the new season with Coventry.
“When I first joined last season, I came here with two goals: to win the Championship and help Coventry earn promotion to the Premier League.
“I’m really happy to now be a Coventry player back in the Premier League.
“I will give everything to the team, fight for every ball, fight for my teammates and bring my experience.
“My ambition now is to help the club stay in the Premier League and finish as high as we can.”
Onyeka’s permanent transfer will take effect on Wednesday, July 1.
The Nigerian leaves Brentford after making 87 appearances in all competitions following his arrival from Danish club Midtjylland in July 2021.
He was Brentford’s first signing of the Premier League era and featured regularly during his debut season as the Bees finished 13th in the league. During that campaign, he also represented Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Onyeka made 23 appearances and registered two assists during the 2022/23 season before spending the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Augsburg, where he featured 31 times in the Bundesliga.
The midfielder made nine appearances for Brentford in the first half of last season before joining Coventry on loan in January, going on to make 14 appearances and score once as the Sky Blues sealed promotion.
Onyeka could make his return to the Gtech Community Stadium with Coventry in February 2027, while Brentford are scheduled to visit the Coventry Building Society Arena for the sides’ final meeting of the 2026/27 season.
