Just like everything concerning the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, the list of screened aspirants into the state’s House of Assembly is oozing heat with countering statements already in the public domain.

The party has long operated along the Chibuike Amaechi factional line versus the Nyesom Wike faction, where Wike is never even in the APC. Later, it developed into Wike versus Gov Sim Fubara factions. This made the APC to have two factions, two secretariats, two party executives, two everything. Now, the list has become another dispute or emerging one.
A statement emerged on Sunday, May 10, 2026, saying the list was out. The list which purportedly came from its Port Harcourt – Aba Road office said to be addressed to its national chairman and the national working committee, said: “The Screening Committee constituted by the National Working Committee of the Party respectfully submits its report for election into the Rivers State House of Assembly for the 2027 General Elections.”
The report recalled that the screening committee was made up of Muraina Ajibola (chairman), Ishaku Tanko Yamawo (secretary) and three others.
The elaborate report said 98 persons appeared for screening and that all of them maintained peace except Victor Oko Jumbo who allegedly attempted to enter with a retinue of security aides, and that one person attempted to bribe the committee.
This report already appeared to point to crisis because Oko Jumbo is Fubara’s strong backer. The report ended by saying 33 were cleared while 65 were allegedly not cleared. This immediately set off allegations that Fubara’s men were not cleared, and Wike’s were cleared.
The report was purportedly signed by the same committee members.
Next day, a counter statement appeared, purportedly signed only one member of the Committee, Tanko Yawoma. The counter said; “We wish to categorically state that the said publication is false, unauthorized, and does not emanate from the appropriate party authorities.
The counter said the report had not yet been released and that no official list has been released by the party at this time.”
This adds to raging tension that Gov Fubara stormed out of the Abuja screening of governors. These reports, true or false, seem to point to one obvious point, being that efforts may be on to push Fubara and his men out of the race, as severally threatened by the FCT Minister.
Truth may be far but whatever the case, another round of crisis may be on the way.
