Speaking at a world press conference in Abuja, Major said the NNPP remained committed to the rule of law and constitutional procedures in handling matters relating to membership, discipline and leadership within the party.
Speaking at a world press conference in Abuja, Major said the NNPP remained committed to the rule of law and constitutional procedures in handling matters relating to membership, discipline and leadership within the party.
He said, “The New Nigeria Peoples Party is a law-abiding political organisation guided by its constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Decisions relating to membership, discipline and leadership are governed by established procedures and not by the personal interests of any individual.”
The NNPP chairman said the party had observed what it described as attempts to create confusion regarding its legitimate leadership, despite legal developments and judicial pronouncements on the matter.
“Our position remains clear and consistent. We are particularly concerned that despite various legal developments and judicial pronouncements relating to the affairs of our party, there are still attempts to accord recognition to individuals and groups whose status within the NNPP remains a subject of serious dispute,” he said.
Agbo stressed the need for institutions responsible for safeguarding democracy to remain impartial and committed to the rule of law.
“It is our belief that institutions entrusted with safeguarding democracy must remain neutral, impartial and faithful to the rule of law. Democracy can only flourish when public institutions operate without fear or favour,” he stated.
Major further maintained that some individuals claiming to represent the party no longer spoke for its recognized leadership and called for an objective review of issues affecting the party’s internal cohesion.
“The NNPP maintains that certain individuals who continue to parade themselves as representatives of the party no longer speak for the legitimate leadership of the organization,” he said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the NNPP chairman urged political actors and groups considering alliances to address internal issues transparently.
“As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 General Elections, political actors must understand that actions taken today will have far-reaching consequences for the future of our democracy.
“No political alliance can succeed on the foundation of unresolved internal contradictions,” he said.
Major also called on the judiciary to continue upholding its constitutional role in strengthening public confidence in democratic institutions.
He stated, “The judiciary must continue to uphold its constitutional responsibility as the last hope of the common man.
“Where there are allegations of disregard for judicial decisions, appropriate mechanisms within the law should be activated to preserve public confidence in democratic institutions.”
According to him, Nigeria’s democratic system can only thrive through respect for constitutional principles, institutional accountability and adherence to the rule of law.
“Nigeria’s democracy is bigger than any individual, political party or institution.
“The survival of our democratic system depends on respect for the rule of law, institutional accountability and adherence to constitutional principles,” he ssid.
Major reaffirmed the NNPP’s commitment to strengthening its political platform and pursuing lawful means to protect the party’s identity and future.
“The NNPP remains committed to building a stronger political platform that promotes national unity, economic prosperity, social justice and good governance for all Nigerians.
“We will continue to pursue all lawful avenues to protect the identity, integrity and future of our great party,” he added.
Major also appealed to party supporters nationwide to remain peaceful and committed to democratic values.
“To our supporters across the country, I urge you to remain peaceful, vigilant and committed to the democratic process. Truth, justice and the rule of law will always prevail,” he added.
