The national chairman of the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance, Mr. Samuel Memeh, has identified intolerant by the Federal Government and deviation from constitution as factors behind inability ravaging many political parties in the country.
Memeh, who spoke in Osogbo during the official visit to Osun State chapter of the party on Tuesday, assured that the DLA will run in line with the dictates of the constitution.
The DLA chairman, who said the vision of the party is to build a Nigeria where government works for the people, added that the party was established to offer Nigerians a credible alternative founded on competent leadership, integrity, accountability, innovation, economic productivity and people-centred governance.
He said, “We believe that Nigeria’s greatest challenge is not a lack of resources but a deficit of purposeful leadership. Our mission is therefore to develop leaders who possess the competence, character and courage to transform our nation.
“You will understand that government of the day is intolerant of other political parties, but when you investigate carefully, you will see deviation from the constitution of the parties. Several activities by the leadership of the parties thereby creating room for litigations.”
Speaking on the forthcoming Osun governorship poll, Memeh said DLA will not be fielding candidate, but at the appropriate time, he noted that the party will decide on who to support at the poll.
He encouraged Osun people to remain peaceful throughout the electoral process and to exercise their democratic rights responsibly.
Earlier, the Osun State acting chairman of DLA, Tosin Odeyemi, expressed readiness by members of the party to work hard and build its structures across the 332 wards in the state.
The PUNCH reports that Odeyemi, who had previously served as the Osun State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, resigned from the party and subsequently emerged as the acting state chairman of the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance.
Odeyemi, an ally of former Kano State Governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 16 and addressed to the NNPP National Chairman. He, however, did not disclose the reason for his decision.
