Singer and pastor, Banky W, has described watching his wife, actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington, endure repeated failed IVF cycles as one of the most humbling experiences of his life.

Speaking on the Teju Baby Face Show which was published on Thursday, he said the fertility struggle reshaped how he views his wife and informed the way he approaches their marriage today.
“In our journey to having children, I’ve seen her endure things that would break people. I’ve seen her when we were trying to have Hezekiah and we were going through IVF cycle after IVF cycle and it wasn’t working and she would get back on her feet and inject herself with whatever they said,” he said.
He said the experience made it impossible for him to complain about domestic responsibilities, including cooking, which he handles regularly.
“I’ve seen her put herself through. So is it now that I now say cooking is hard?” he said.
Banky W said the ordeal was part of a broader pattern of sacrifice he has witnessed from Adesua across their marriage, including seasons where she paused her career entirely to focus on their family.
“I’ve seen her put her career on pause in some seasons because we were trying to have children. I mean, you know, what more can you ask of a wife and a mother than that?” he said.
He also said the fertility journey was among the difficult seasons that drew them closer to God rather than apart.
“There’s certain difficult situations that I faced personally or that we faced as a couple that have drawn us even closer to God, like our wait for our children,” he said.
Adesua, who was present during the interview, acknowledged that not every season of their marriage had been easy.
“Has it been easy every time? No,” she said.
Banky W said the couple spent nearly a year and a half in friendship before they began dating officially, and that he proposed within four and a half months of their relationship becoming official.
“I had never been in a relationship that had lasted a year before I met her technically when we got engaged. I was toasting but she was not roasting for almost a year and a half.
“But when we actually now officially dating, it was October 1st. I proposed to her in February. So we dated officially for four and a half months,” he said.
The couple welcomed their first son, Zaiah, in 2021 after publicly sharing their struggle with infertility, and have since welcomed a second son, Hezekiah.
