The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has said a hearing and speech-impaired teenage girl found wandering on the streets of Osogbo, the state capital, has been brought into its custody.

It subsequently called on residents of the state to volunteer information that would lead to reuniting the girl with her family.
In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, obtained in Osogbo on Saturday, the Osun NSCDC further said, “The minor, estimated to be between the ages of 15 and 16, was found by concerned members of the public along Odi-Olowo, in Osogbo, Osun State.
“She was subsequently brought to the NSCDC office for safety. Preliminary observations indicate that the girl is unable to speak and hear and she has not been able to provide any useful information regarding her identity, family or place of residence.
“The Command under the leadership of Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo, is therefore appealing to members of the public who may have any information that could assist in identifying the girl or locating her family to kindly come forward.”
The Corps also told parents, guardians, or relatives who may be searching for a missing child that matches the description given, to contact the command.
The statement added, “Parents, guardians, or relatives who may be searching for a missing child matching this description are also urged to contact the Command, along Iwo-Ibadan Road, Onibueja, Ido-Osun, Osun State.”
The development comes months after The PUNCH reported in May 2025 that the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said it had sealed a home for children with disabilities owned by a private individual in Osogbo.
A statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Kehinde Adeleke, explained that State Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo directed that the home be sealed as it lacked facilities for the care of children with disabilities.
Speaking during a raid on the facility, the Deputy Commandant of the Corps, Oluwafemi Abeere, stated that the command sent operatives to the home “following a tip-off from the public.
“Upon arrival, it was evident that the children were malnourished, and operatives discovered that the home lacked registration with relevant authorities, raising concerns about the children’s well-being.”
