Crystal Palace secured a massive £21.5 million financial boost after defeating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the UEFA Conference League final in Leipzig.
French striker Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the decisive goal early in the second half to hand Palace their first-ever European trophy and complete a historic campaign under departing manager Oliver Glasner.
Mateta reacted quickest after an effort from Adam Wharton to fire home the rebound and seal victory for the Eagles in Germany.
The success also guarantees Crystal Palace a place in next season’s UEFA Europa League, further boosting the club’s finances ahead of the new campaign.
Palace had already earned approximately €17.3 million (£15.2 million) from their Conference League run before the final, including participation fees, prize money and value pillar payments.
Victory over the Spanish side added another €3 million in prize money, while qualification for the Europa League group stage guarantees an additional £4 million.
The combined earnings now stand at around €24.8 million (£21.5 million), with the possibility of further revenue depending on Palace’s Europa League performances next season.
Glasner leaves Selhurst Park after overseeing the most successful era in the club’s history, having guided Palace to the FA Cup, Community Shield and Conference League titles within a remarkable two-and-a-half-year spell.
Speaking after the final, match-winner Mateta expressed his delight at helping Palace secure European glory.
“I feel fantastic. We did it. First time in Europe, and we did it,” Mateta said.
“We gave everything. I told you about the intensity they would have, and I am tired right now because I gave everything. That’s why we won today.”
The victory marks another major milestone for Crystal Palace, who will now prepare for a historic Europa League campaign next season.
