The 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) held in Lagos was a historic night for the cinematic masterpiece “My Father’s Shadow,” which emerged as the biggest winner of the evening. The film, which masterfully blends intimate family drama with the political tension of Nigeria’s 1993 presidential election, swept five prestigious categories, solidifying its place as a landmark in African cinema.

The film’s triumph began with the night’s most coveted prize, Best Movie, awarded to producers Fumbi Ogunbanwo and Rachel Dargavel.

Technically, the film was equally dominant. Pius Fatoke and CJ Mirra won Best Sound & Sound Design, while the duo of Duval Timothy and CJ Mirra clinched Best Score/Music for the film’s emotionally resonant audio landscape.
Following closely behind ‘My Father’s Shadow,’ the films ‘Colours of Fire’ and ‘To Kill A Monkey’ were the next biggest winners, each securing three awards. ‘Colours of Fire’ was honored with Best Costume Design, Best Lead Actor for Uzor Arukwe, and Best Art Direction, while ‘To Kill A Monkey’ claimed Best Supporting Actor for Bucci Franklin, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing.
Among individual winners, Linda Ejiofor made history with two awards, winning Best Actress for ‘The Serpent’s Gift’ and Best Supporting Actress for ‘The Herd,’ and the series ‘Inimba’ also achieved a double victory by winning both Best Series (Scripted) and Best Indigenous M-Net Original.
