The Osun State Police Command has arrested a suspect captured in a viral video assaulting a female traffic officer on duty in the state.

The command said the incident, which sparked outrage online, showed the suspect attacking a female officer with a stick and shovel while she was carrying out lawful traffic control duties.
“Following the disturbing incident, which showed the suspect attacking the innocent female officer with a stick and shovel, the Police immediately launched a coordinated intelligence-led operation to apprehend the perpetrator.
“The suspect, who fled the scene and escaped to Edo State in an attempt to evade arrest, was successfully tracked and apprehended today,” the statement read.
Abiodun described the arrest as a demonstration of its resolve to ensure that attacks on law enforcement officers do not go unpunished.
“Assault on Police officers performing their lawful duties is a serious criminal offence, and the Force will not tolerate any form of attack on its personnel,” the command stated.
The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric and unacceptable,” while urging members of the public to respect law enforcement officers and cooperate with them.
The command also advised residents to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
