President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure drive is opening up South Eastern part of Nigeria, with the expansion of scope of work on the Trans-Sahara superhighway.

Abiodun Oladunjoye, the director of information and public relations, State House, revealed that Dave Umahi, Minister of Works, told the Presidential Media team currently inspecting federal government projects in the South East, weekend, that “the original scope of section 1 of the project was meant to cover 118 Kilometres single carriageway, but later reviewed to cover both lanes of the 123.6 kilometres at a cost of N445 billion.
Umahi stated that the dualised component’s procurement process is ongoing.
The Minister also revealed that section 2 of the superhighway runs from the Ebonyi border through Benue, Kogi, and ends at Loko-Oweto bridge in Nasarawa State, covering the 123.6 km stretch.
“The project is over 28% completed with continuous work despite the rainy season. We are utilising concrete technology for durability” Umahi said.
The team also inspected a completed section of concrete pavement link road between Ebonyi and Cross River State, particularly from Okposi-Ukawu in Oha-Zara Local Government of Ebonyi and Ugwulangu-Abaomege in UGEP Ugep Local Government of Cross River State.
When completed, the project is expected to expand socio-economic and agricultural benefits by opening up the region’s rich potentials.
This reflects the Tinubu administration’s determination to stimulate economic activities, create jobs, and improve the living standards of citizens through strategic investments in critical sectors.
The projects are seen as part of President Tinubu’s legacy projects aimed at tackling insecurity and lifting Nigerians out of poverty.
Umahi who hailed Tinubu’s foresight in conceiving the projects, reiterated that these and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway corridor with over 73 Dams for irrigation farming will boost Agriculture.
He also noted that the “Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and other development initiatives will add to improve connectivity, attract investors and enhance quality of life for Nigerians.”
The Presidential team is currently inspecting infrastructure projects in the South East, starting with Ebonyi State, in continuation of the Renewed Hope Media Tour of federal and state governments’ projects.
The Presidential Communications Team which is being led by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, also include Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications as well as Senior Special Assistants to the President on Media and Special Duties, Tunde Rahman.
Others include Tope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Otega Ogra, Digital and New Media, Fredrick Nwabufo, Public Engagement, Linda Akhigbe, Strategic Communication, and Segun Dada, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media.
