In a statement issued in Abuja, Information and Voter Education Committee Chairman Mohammed Kudu Haruna informed the public that the exercise will recommence on Monday, 11 May 2026. This follows the suspension of the second phase on 17 April 2026, which allowed the commission to clean up the register following the claims and objections period.
Deadlines for eligible registrants
The third phase of the CVR is scheduled to run from Monday, 11 May 2026, until Friday, 10 July 2026. INEC has urged eligible citizens who have turned 18, as well as those who missed previous registration windows, to utilise this final period to enrol.
Beyond fresh registrations, the commission noted that the window is open for specific voter requirements. Registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct personal biodata are advised to use the commission’s dedicated online portal or visit INEC offices at the state and local government levels.
Statutory display for claims and objections
Following the conclusion of the registration phase, INEC will display the Register of Voters for claims and objections from Thursday, 23 July to Wednesday, 29 July 2026. This statutory process allows citizens to scrutinise the list and assist the commission in maintaining an accurate and credible database. The commission assured Nigerians that all necessary logistical arrangements have been finalised to ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise across the country.
Strengthening the electoral foundation
INEC reiterated its appeal to eligible citizens to present themselves for registration, describing the exercise as a vital step in strengthening the foundation of Nigeria’s electoral process.
The commission emphasised that the accuracy and completeness of the voter register are collective responsibilities, urging registrants to participate actively in the upcoming claims and objections window to verify their details and report discrepancies.
