This follows a keenly contested election, positioning him on the succession path to the presidency of the Institute within the next four years.
In a statement issued by the Institute, CIS said Chiemeka will work closely with the 14th President and Chairman of the Governing Council in advancing the objectives of the professional body and strengthening the Nigerian capital market.
Chiemeka, a Fellow and Council Member of CIS and the current Chairman of the West African Capital Markets Integration Council (WACMIC), is expected to be sworn in on June 25, 2026, alongside the Institute’s newly elected President, Fiona Ahimie, who emerged as the first female President of the Institute.
The election is seen as a significant boost for CIS as the Institute continues to deepen professionalism, market integrity, and investor confidence in Nigeria’s capital market industry.
Chiemeka, who currently leads Nigerian Exchange Limited, brings more than three decades of experience spanning securities trading, asset management, and investment banking across African markets.
Since joining the former Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2019 as Divisional Head of Trading Business, he has held several strategic leadership positions, including Divisional Head of Capital Markets and Executive Director, Capital Markets, before emerging as CEO of NGX.
Industry stakeholders have widely recognised his contributions to market development and innovation. During his tenure at United Capital Securities Limited, Chiemeka championed the first cross-border trading initiative under the West African Capital Market Integration framework.
He also spearheaded the issuance and listing of the first Eurobond Mutual Fund valued at $10 million on NGX, as well as the Wealth for Women Mutual Fund, the first gender-focused mutual fund listed on the Exchange. Prior to joining United Capital, he served as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Chapel Hill Denham Securities, where he led the firm into the top tier of brokerage houses responsible for more than 70 per cent of market trades, with a four per cent market share.
He also previously served as CEO of RenCap Securities (Nigeria) Limited and Head of Securities Trading at Afrinvest West Africa Limited, where he played key roles in landmark transactions, including the first Global Depository Receipts (GDR) transaction on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
Chiemeka is also affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Institute of Directors (IoD), the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), UK, and the Association of Investment Advisers and Portfolio Managers.
He is an alumnus of the University of Oxford, Lagos Business School, and the University of Lagos.
